 5245. Charles H. Carpenter, Hopi Man, Silver Print, 7.8 x 6, Mounted in 11 x 14 Buff Mat,1900  $400. 
Carpenter was the staff photographer at the Field Museum from 1899 to 1947.  In 1900 he took over 800 photographs of Hopi people.  His work is interesting in its contrast to the more romantic treatment of Native Americans by such photographers as Curtis and Gilpin.

This and most of the other Forbes prints have a stamp on the back with "A.A. FORBES PHOTO WILDOMAR,CAL,", following the "CAL" . Some are also signed in the negative. They are all  on the original boards which 5.25 x 8.75.
