Photos 1 Japanese Photos 2 The following 17 photographs are all by the Hungarian photographer and film maker Francis Haar (1908-1997). He was active in Japan from 1940 to 1960, maintaining a studio in Tokyo from 1940 to 1942 and from 1946 to 1956. He moved to Hawaii in 1960.
His work was popular in both Japan and abroad and was widely exhibited and published.
The most recent publication of his work is "Francis Haar, A Lifetime of Images, Tom Haar, University of Hawai'i Press, Honolulu, 2001
The offered photographs came from a portfolio group of 24 prints, probably printed during the late 1950s. They all have the photographers stamp on the reverse. All the images are about 9.5 x 9.5 inches in size. All have been archivally matted.
Since my scanner is only about 9" wide, about 1/2 inch has been cropped from the image on the right hand side. The photographs are a bit larger than seen here.
