The authorship of the majority of photographic works from 19th century Central Asia can not currently be identified with certainty.
These anonymous photographs include some of the most striking images of the period.
The images below are a sampling from the Central Asia photo archive collection of 19th century works that are primarily by unknown photographic artists.
The group also includes works by photographers such as Lievin, who have left us a smaller number of of known images.
